Bio:

Benjamin Williams is a composer in central Ohio pursuing a Doctoral degree in Composition at The Ohio State University School of Music where he is studying with Thomas Wells and Donald Harris. He earned his MM and BM in Composition at The University of Akron, where he studied with Daniel McCarthy and Nikola Resanovic. He is married to violinist Emily Williams.

Williams has had performances by The Cleveland Chamber Symphony, The High Street Four, The University of Akron Chamber Choir and the Ohio State University Symphonic Band. Recent performances include the 2009 NACUSA National Conference, UCM New Music Festival, 2008 The Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference, Electronic Music Midwest Festival, Kentucky New Music Festival and the University of Nebraska New Music Festival.

He has recently won the Johnstone Woodwind Master Series III Competition at Ohio State and the APSU 21st Annual Young Composers Competition. Williams has also been a finalist in the Ithaca College Choral Composition Contest and a National Federation of Music Clubs recipient of the ASCAP/Victor Herbert Award. Recent commissions include Voices of Canton, Inc., the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra and the University of Akron Men’s Chorus. Benjamin Williams serves as the co-editor of the SCI Newsletter and The Ohio State Online Music Journal. He has also been the conference manager for the SCI Student National Conference. He is currently the composer-in-residence with the Ohio State University Symphony.
